Tangleroot Farm

CSA

What is a CSA?

A CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture, is a way to invest in local farms by buying a share of the farm's harvest. Members receive a weekly bounty consisting of 7-11 bunches of different in-season veggies.  Becoming a CSA member allows you to connect with your farm and farmer, support good farming practices, and have access to fresh, nutritious food. This system also benefits farmers by providing income early in the season when input costs for things such as seeds and equipment are greatest.

Why be a Member?
1.  Lower prices on fresh produce.  By purchasing a membership at the beginning of the season, members receive a wholesale price versus paying high farmers' market prices.
2.  Receive freshly harvested produce.
3.  Know your farmer, know your food.  We keep you updated with what's happening at the farm, what practices we're using and share information about growing your own veggies, recipes, and more!
4.  Support small local farms.  Big agriculture causes massive environmental degradation, period. By joining a CSA you can choose to support a farm that grows using the most sustainable practices and strengthen the agricultural movement in your community.
5.  Join a community of like minded people.  Veggie loving friends!

Tangleroot CSA

Tangleroot Farm CSA grows using organic practices.  We run for 21 weeks from June through October for the Saratoga/Glens Falls region and 15 weeks for our Chestertown drop off.  You have the option of picking up your veggies at the farmer's market or having them delivered to a drop site near you. If you head out to the Spa City or Chestertown Farmer's Market, pick-up is an exciting day where you can hand pick your produce from a table of freshly harvested items, meet your farmers, and connect with other members.  We also have convenient drop off locations where we deliver neatly boxed up CSA shares for you to pick up on a specific day of the week. While you wait in anticipation of your next week's share, we'll keep you updated with email newsletters containing farm news, recipes, and more.

CSA Pickup Locations:

1.  Farmer's Market pickup
If you choose this option, you will be able to choose your veggie share for the week from our farmer's market stand.  This is great for those who want more of a specific item on a given week.  By paying upfront, you'll have saved money over a non CSA member shopper at our stand.  Since we pride ourselves on very reasonable farmer's market pricing and the freshest organic veggies, you get a bounty of great produce for your money! This is the only option where you'll get to chat up your favorite farmers!

Spa City Farmer's Market: Sundays 10-3 Saratoga Springs, NY
Chestertown Farmer's Market: Wednesdays 10-2 Chestertown, NY

2.  Drop off locations: Wednesdays
If you choose this option, your CSA share will be boxed up for you in special Tangleroot Farm boxes.  Once a week you'll go to your nearby drop off site to take home your veggies and drop off last week's empty box.  By reusing boxes we're able to keep costs down and put more energy into growing good food. There are four convenient drop off locations to choose from.  This is a great option for people who enjoy the surprise and convenience of pre bagged and boxed items.

Rise Movement Arts Center: Wednesdays 11:45-5 Saratoga Springs, NY
Glens Falls Music Academy: Wednesdays 1-5 Glens Falls, NY

3.  On Farm-Saturdays 4-6
If you choose this option, you'll come to the farm once a week and pickup your items from our CSA stand.  This is a great option for people who live close to Essex or who want to walk the fields, see the farm and chat with us each week.

Share Cost
We offer two share size options, small and large.  Both share sizes receive about 7-11 different types of vegetables per week for boxed shares however, the large share offers twice the amount of produce at a discounted value.  Our CSA members receive wholesale prices. That works out to a huge savings for your volume of produce over the course of our 21 week season. If you love shopping at the farmer's market to get high quality fruits and veggies and to support local farms, joining a CSA is a great way to do both and save money in the process.
